The Jeet Kune Do philosophy forms the guiding principles underlying PMA’s TOTAL DEFENSE curriculum.
Through researching many different martial arts, Bruce Lee developed his system and philosophy. The JKD student learns to adapt to any threat with the goal of attaining mastery in all four ranges (Kicking, Punching, Trapping (In-Fighting), and Grappling).
Attribute development, and a scientific approach to the individual martial artist's progression are the hallmarks of Jeet Kune Do. PMA uses the process of cross-training, research and development in different disciplines that rate among the most effective martial arts in the world.
JUN FAN MARTIAL ARTS / JEET KUNE DO
The Jun Fan Martial Arts are the training methods originally developed by Bruce Lee and passed on to Dan Inosanto. Jun Fan Martial Arts is the base system of the Jeet Kune Do philosophy.
Jun Fan Martial Arts is known for its economy of motion and integration of arts. The system emphasizes footwork and agility, tool development, economy of motion, counter ability and strong practical self-defense.
MUAY THAI
Muay Thai is the national martial art and sport of Thailand. It is a full contact ring fighting art often called the science of eight limbs. Known for its practicality, power, and speed, Thai Boxing specializes in powerful kicks, strikes with the knees, elbows and clinch fighting.
WESTERN BOXING
Western Boxing is often known as the “sweet science” and considered among many, including Bruce Lee as a martial art. Bruce Lee was the first to integrate western Boxing as an alternative to the classical strikes in the eastern martial arts. While it primarily focuses on punches and defense, Boxing gives the martial artist a sense of timing, head and body movement, footwork, and broken rhythm. It is also the common thread linking other styles (Jun Fan Martial Arts, Muay Thai, & Savate) included in PMA’s Total Defense Program.
PANANTUKAN (FILIPINO BOXING)
Panantukan is also known as “Dirty Boxing” and is the empty handed boxing component of the Filipino Martial Arts. Emphasis in training primarily focuses on limb destructions, body manipulation, angling, fighting out of both leads, speed, flow and rhythm. Mostly known for its street fighting application, striking with the elbows, knees, forearms, shoulders and head are also used along with punching.
SAVATE
Savate is also known as Boxe Française. This kickboxing art involves a combination of effective hand strikes and dynamic kicks. Training elements rely on partner drills, using controlled contact on each other, allowing the student to develop their balance, distance, precision and timing.
